Art Club Preps for Field Trip

Students prepare for their field trip to the Susquehanna Lutheran Village in Millersburg this coming Friday. Art Club students will be assisting the SLV residents in the creation of a holiday craft. Students made the craft prior to the field trip so that they can be great art teachers to the SLV residents. Students also prepared a holiday card to give to each resident.

Here is a slideshow of the students hard work!

November Art Club

Students printed their bags this week. Using their printmaking skills they engraved a styrofoam board with an image. They made sure their image was backwards so that it printed. The image was layered with ink with a brayer. Students mixed colors to get their desired design. Students made a test print to make sure they were layering the correct amount of ink. Art Club Helpers assisted the students with the printing process.

It was fun to be printmakers and design our own personal accessory!

Art Club October 2014

We are back again! Students are working on a Printmaking project in which they design their own stamp to be printed onto a canvas bag. Students researched popular images at the computer lab to inspire their designs. These designs were then traced onto tracing paper and carved backwards into styrofoam. The styrofoam material acts as a stamp. Next meeting we will print their art onto their very own canvas bag.

Paper Mache Animals - Session 2

Session 1 Art Club began their paper mache animals or creatures. Paper Mache is a french word for "chewed paper". The material is a mixture of paper with some type of adhesive such as glue, starch or paste. Our paper mache mixture was paper dipped in paste mixed with water. Students first created their animal bodies by crumbling up newspaper into large ovals and circles. They kept their body together using tape. Legs and arms were made with paper cups and cardboard. Then they were tightly covered in paper mache strips. They dried and hardened over night. The next step will be to paint and decorate! Check out our creations below...

And the Mural Begins...Session 2

Now that the designers, Ms. Geesey and myself have finished painting the layout for this school years mural, Art Club is ready to begin adding a splash of color.

Before we began:

Check out our progress...

While some students were working on the mural, other students were hard at work painting the Elementary School recycling bins. We decided to do this to promote recycling and help the fourth grade organize the collection process during the week.

We were so tired at the end of a hard days work...

Check out our work...

Stay tuned as the color continues!
