Welcome Back - Art Club Followers!

Welcome Back to a new year! This year Art Club is open to fourth grade students only. These students were invited personally to be in Art Club this year. This is a very special privileged to our highly creative and mature artists this year.

Students have been working on designs for this years yearbook cover. Covers run from the front to the back, students are connecting their themes from one side to the other. Students are either working in pairs or by themselves. They have each come up with unique and creative designs that support and represent our schools pride and community.

One winner will be selected to have their art put on the yearbook cover. Winners will be selected the beginning of November.

End of Our Art Club Year

As art club comes to an end, we reflect on all of the cool projects we did along with community service for our school community (cafeteria mural) and for the local senior center (holiday craft activity). All art club sessions brainstormed adjectives that describe what art is. These words were collage and put on display for the Spring art show.

Painted Bird Houses

Some students chose to glaze their birdhouse while others painted them with tempera paint. These will be showcased at the upcoming Art Show! Check them out.

Clay Bird Houses

Art Club members made 3 dimensional bird houses out of clay. This was a challenging project but they did a great job. We used a paint bottle as the cylinder shape for our house. We rolled out a clay slab and wrapped it around the paint tube. We couldn't forget the saran wrap so the clay would not stick to the container. We used tracers and cut out a hole for the opening to the birds. We made a cone top and flat bottom. Students decorated their bird houses with different textures and carved designs to make it unique and original.

Art Club Preps for Field Trip

Students prepare for their field trip to the Susquehanna Lutheran Village in Millersburg this coming Friday. Art Club students will be assisting the SLV residents in the creation of a holiday craft. Students made the craft prior to the field trip so that they can be great art teachers to the SLV residents. Students also prepared a holiday card to give to each resident.

Here is a slideshow of the students hard work!

November Art Club

Students printed their bags this week. Using their printmaking skills they engraved a styrofoam board with an image. They made sure their image was backwards so that it printed. The image was layered with ink with a brayer. Students mixed colors to get their desired design. Students made a test print to make sure they were layering the correct amount of ink. Art Club Helpers assisted the students with the printing process.

It was fun to be printmakers and design our own personal accessory!

Art Club October 2014

We are back again! Students are working on a Printmaking project in which they design their own stamp to be printed onto a canvas bag. Students researched popular images at the computer lab to inspire their designs. These designs were then traced onto tracing paper and carved backwards into styrofoam. The styrofoam material acts as a stamp. Next meeting we will print their art onto their very own canvas bag.
