Clay Piggy Banks Art Club Session 2

Art Club Session 2 made their creative clay piggy banks last week. They continued the creativity by creating even more exciting animals.  This session a frog, a money, and a baseball was created.

Art Club Helpers again, each led their own group. This was a big success because everyone helped each other and gave each other good ideas while helping solve tricky problems.

Clay Piggy Banks Art Club Session 1

Art Club's February project is Clay Piggy Banks. This project will take up the next two months because ceramic arts goes through an important process:

1. Clay project is designed
2. Clay dries to bone dry clay called Greenware
3. Greenware is fired in Kiln to Bisque Ware
4. Bisque Ware is painted with Glaze
5. Glaze Ware is fired in Kiln for glaze to melt into shiny colors.
6. Completed Project :-)
 **A long process that is worth the wait!

Art Club Helpers were greatly appreciated and used throughout this project. Each Art Club Helper was assigned a group of four Art Club Members to teach step by step techniques to create their own unique piggy bank.

I love how each Art Club Member's bank is unique and different. Some students even turned their banks into other animals like cats and penguins, even a car! Creativity was flowing. Great Job!

Art Club & Readers' Reef Mural Project Publicity!

ATTENTION All UDAES Art Club Students, Helpers, UDASD Staff and Community:

Session 3 Tops Off Recyclable Art!

Art Club Session 3 proudly marked their signature on the Readers' Reef Mural and posed so preciously by the completed work of art. They then too created fabulous Recyclable Art Mosaics. Their designs were very creative and colorful. Students enjoy working together and collaborating ideas. We can all learn from each other.

Session 2 Continues Recyclable Art!

Art Club Session 2 met and placed their signature on the Readers' Reef Mural with pride in their hard work.
They also created their cap mosaics. Recyclable Art is so cool!

 Art Club Helpers started to create the writing for the Cap Mosaic Quilt.

UDAES and Art Club in co ordinance with the cap collection are sorting out the clear water bottle caps for a great cause. Each caps helps raise money for chemotherapy treatment for cancer patients. It feels good to help others.

Art Club Session 1 Makes Recyclables into Art!

Recyclable Art

Art Club Session 1 used plastic colored bottle caps to create unique mosaics. Each student was given a cardboard square. They designed their mosaic with a border and a unique design or image. Each students mosaic square will be put together to be part of a cap mosaic quilt.

Readers' Reef Mural Is Complete!!!!

The Readers Reef is complete! Ms. Geesey helped me touched up some unfinished areas and outlined with black paint. Each Art Club Session is adding their signature to the snack shack as we meet this month.

Readers' Reef Mural Day 6

Art Club Session 3 finalized the mural by adding second coats to many colors in order to make them vibrant! They also added a darker brown sponge paint along the palm trees. This was added to make it look like the shade that is created from the palm tree leaves.

We also worked on Holiday Cards for some of the staff at UDAES whom we wanted to send our appreciation for all that they do for us and the school community.

Readers' Reef Mural Day 5

Art Club Session 2 was hard at work adding detail to the mural's sand by sponge painting a lighter color to create texture. Session 2 also painted letters of the alphabet that Ms. Bowman added to the base of the palm trees to go with the reading theme. Art Club Members worked near the sand underneath a warm red light. They really felt like they were on the beach!!

Reader's Reef Mural Day 4

Art Club Session 1 met and continued to work on the mural. We painted over the transparent areas to make them solid bright colors. Students also began to sponge paint texture on the top layer of the sand. A reporter from The Upper Dauphin Sentinel came to visit and take pictures while we worked on the mural. A few students got interviewed too! The article should appear in The Upper Dauphin Sentinel sometime in January. I will keep you posted with exact dates.

Art Club also began working on the backdrop for the annual "UDA's Got Talent" Talent Show. Here are some photos of the students hard at work.

Art Club Helps with 4th Grade Musical

Art Club Session 3 worked hard on the display for the 4th Grade upcoming Musical "We Haz Jazz" They painted the vibrant purple title sign with great perfection! The Musical is on Monday, December 3rd at 7:00 P.M. in the Elementary Gym. Come check it out!!

Readers' Reef Mural Day 3 Update

Art Club Session 3 continued to tackle the mural painting. This group was able to finish almost all of the sand. The seagulls now have color and the Snack Shack is almost complete. After three session, the Readers' Reef Mural is looking fabulous! Great job UDAES Art Club! Thanks Art Helpers.

Readers' Reef Mural Day 2 Update

The second Art Club group continued to add vibrant colors to The Readers' Reef Mural. They finished the palm trees and began adding color to the beach critters. The sand is the biggest part of the mural and is taking the longest to complete!

The fish that you see hanging from the ceiling in the Readers' Reef Room were created by First Grade Art Students. These students were happy to donate their fish to the Reading Room for the 2012-13 school year.

Art Club Takes Part in Grandparents Day

Art Club Session 1 took some time to prepare for The UDAES Annual Grandparents Day Celebration. Third and Fourth Grade Art Club Members were eager to help paint a welcome sign that would hang behind the stage during the school wide musical performance. Third Grade Art Students also helped decorate trees with leaves using an artistic style called Printmaking. Below is a picture of the display.
