Griding a Canvas

Students learned how to use the griding technique to enlarge an image. Students brought in a desired picture that they wanted to paint. They created a 1 inch grid on a canvas using a ruler. They followed a transparency grid to enlarge their image on a canvas. All detail was included. Students learned to break down each box into small lines and shapes. When they were finished they ended up with a picture that was four times the size of their original image.

Art Club Field Trip

Art Club visited the Susquehanna Lutheran Village on December 16th for our annual Holiday Give-Back. Before arriving students hand painted clay pots and planted Spider Plants in them to give as a gift, along with a hand-made card. Art Club members also learned how to make a yarn Christmas tree in advance in order to help the residents make one for themselves. The room was full with residents by the time we got there - we had no more craft bags left. Students enjoy spending time with the residents sharing stories and upcoming holiday events. This year the students even sung the residents some chorus songs which made them very happy.

Art Club Field Trip Preparation

Art Club will travel to the Susquehanna Lutheran Village on Wednesday for our yearly field trip. We will share our creative talents with the residents by helping them make a craft and giving them a hand made gift - a painted pot filled with a newly sprouted Spider plant.

Clay Monsters Day 1 Formation

Students used the basic clay technique - the pinch pot to create large mouth's for their creepy crawly animal/monster/people/creatures. 

Students first drew their inspirations on a piece of paper. Drawing their creature from the front view and the back. 

They started with a basic pinch pot using a cup mold. They they created legs, teeth, eyes, tongues, extra body parts and much more using the coil technique. They pinched, pulled and squeezed their clay to get desired shapes. 

Art Club Members learned how to connect clay together with the slip and score technique using sticky icky slip. Students completed their creatures by adding textures using various materials or carving into the sides of the clay.

Their creatures await the heat of the kiln oven where they will become bisqueware and will be ready to glaze in beautiful colors that will bring them to life!
